A Vision for Queens Square
This website has been created as a part of the Attleborough Community Planning Process.
Breckland District Council’s (BDC) Core Strategy identifies Attleborough as a strategic growth location to accommodate up to 4,500 homes and associated development. In accordance with this strategy Attleborough Land Ltd (part of Ptarmigan Land Ltd) is promoting land to the south of the railway for the majority of this growth. It is anticipated that an outline planning application will be submitted in 2011. In advance of this, BDC will be preparing an Area Action Plan for Attleborough and Snetterton Heath which will set out exactly where the growth of the town should be located and what form it should take. It is hoped that this report will help inform that document.
The Council’s proposed development plans could bring up to £800 million investment in Attleborough bringing substantial benefits to the community through the jobs created, the money spent through the development period and through infrastructure and other improvements enabled by the development, such as much needed improvements in road infrastructure.
To help inform the planning process, Attleborough Land Ltd commissioned John Thompson & Partners (JTP) to engage local residents and stakeholders in an assessment of the issues and opportunities for the site and surrounding areas and to create a new Vision for the future.
The Community Planning Process took place during January and February 2010 and involved over five hundred people including residents, businesses and interest groups, who were encouraged to participate in the design and development of a new Vision for Attleborough. The process culminated with a Community Planning Weekend on Friday 5 and Saturday 6 February 2010 to help shape a new Vision for the extension of the town. The Vision was reported back to the community on Tuesday 9 February at Attleborough High School.
